The BMW Concept Z4 takes over some of the lines of the Vision Connected Drive prototype and does not betray the classic spider characteristics, ranging from elongated silhouette, abundant pitch and compact rear. The BMW stylists worked carefully on the outside proportions, shortening the front bonnet to put passengers in the center of the car, thus centralizing the masses and giving the pilot a greater sense of involvement.
The body of the BMW Concept Z4 is full of intentionally exaggerated details, many of which will be abandoned on the standard Z4, scheduled for 2018. German designers have traced futuristic lines without forgetting the long tradition of BMW is a spider, a kind of car always present in the history of the builder: the front lights recall the Z8 of 2000, while the frontal transverse front plates are inspired by 328 Mille Miglia in 1936. The BMW Concept Z4 also adopts alloy wheels Lightweight 20 inches and brings the orange outer Energetic paint to the debut.
The interior of the BMW Concept Z4 is very welcoming and “band” the driver, placing it at the center of what BMW considers a small capsule. The instrument panel is digital and is positioned at the same height as the multimedia display screen, so that the readability of the instruments is easier. The controls are also grouped within the islands and improve ergonomics in the passenger compartment. Door access threshold is made of carbon fiber, the same material used also for the air slide on the rear bumper.
So far the BMW Concept Z4, of which the German house has not revealed much beyond its sinuous shapes. To find out about the Z4 series we have to rely on the sparks and spy photos (see them here). We know for a long time that it is the result of a joint project between BMW and Toyota that has developed a front and rear drive platform for use on the Z4 and precisely on Toyota Supra, which is also expected in 2018. The new BMW Z4 will abandon the rigid roof Foldable of the current in favor of a simpler and lighter canvas roof, in pure spider-like style.
Regarding the engines we should expect the 4 cylinder 2.0 gasoline and the 6-cylinder 3.0, therefore no diesel. Hybrid versions are also possible, as the Toyota Supra will most probably be equipped with this technology, but the super sporty version M should be excluded. The rumors indicate that the BMW Concept Z4 and Supra will both be built in Austria by Magna.
